Our Lady of Fatima asks us to pray and sacrifice for sinners

The National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima visited the Relevant Radio® Chapel of the Nativity during the Jubilee Year of Fatima. Pope Paul VI blessed this beautiful statue, which travels around the United States bringing the message of Fatima with her. Bill Sockey, statue custodian, spoke with Drew Mariani about Our Lady’s messages in Fatima when she appeared 100 years ago.
The most important message from Our Lady in Fatima, according to Sockey, is to pray and offer sacrifices for the conversion of sinners. We can offer up small sacrifices such as our daily trials and tribulations, or small penances throughout the day.
There are many ways to offer penance. Delay your morning coffee by 20 minutes. Drive without the air conditioning on in your car. Denying yourself some small comfort or even delaying it can make more of a difference than you realize.
Sometimes, we are faced with larger sufferings and crosses. Rather than complaining, we need to offer our suffering as it happens. Our suffering is intended by God and permitted by God to offer for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for sins, says Sockey. He recommends that we pray for them by name.
Why is it important for us to sacrifice for the conversion of sinners? “It’s not enough to pray for them, we have to do penance for them. God has given us the power to do this,” says Sockey. Through our baptism, we are priest, prophet, and king. We can do penance on behalf of another person, and potentially make the difference in the salvation of their soul. If we use the sufferings that we have been given, we have the tremendous power to convert sinners and save souls.
