Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Listeners
1. What is the programming lineup?
You should not expect any immediate changes to the programming you currently hear on your local station. The programming lineup is still being determined in order to best serve our audiences with quality Catholic content. In addition, all our shows will continue to be available on podcast via the Relevant Radio® and Immaculate Heart Radio websites and mobile apps.. This merger does not change our ongoing commitment to improve current shows and develop even more compelling Catholic programming. As with any radio network, programming changes and schedule adjustments occur from time to time. We will do our best to notify you in advance of any program changes.
2. Will one line up of shows be aired on all stations?
No. Some shows will be national and some shows will remain on their current local or regional station. One of the many benefits of this merger is that you’ll eventually have access to even more Catholic programming, not less, through our terrestrial stations, online and through our mobile app.
3. Will my station still be on-air?
Yes. There are no plans to take any stations off-air. You can continue to listen on-air, on-line or on the mobile app.
4. Where will the Relevant Radio® Network broadcast?
We will broadcast inspirational Catholic radio programs 24/7 over 120 AM and FM radio stations and translators in 39 states reaching 133 Million souls. Additionally, programs will be live-streamed and available on podcast through multiple internet platforms including websites, mobile Apps, and social media portals.
5. What about the websites, mobile App, and social media pages?
Eventually there will be one Relevant Radio website, one Relevant Radio App, and coordinated Relevant Radio social media. There may be multiple streams to accommodate multiple programs.
6. Will my donations still be tax-deductible?
Yes. Donations made to Relevant Radio and Immaculate Heart Radio will still be tax-deductible. When the merger is complete, the closing date is June 30, 2017, donations to Relevant Radio or Immaculate Heart Media will be tax-deductible. Immaculate Heart Media branded as Relevant Radio® is a non-profit organization.
7. Will my prayer requests still be prayed for?
Yes. Prayer requests will be prayed for individually by associates and prayer partners.
8. Why did Immaculate Heart Radio and Relevant Radio decide to merge?
There is no more important or urgent task than to reach souls for Christ. This merger joins the two largest owned and operated Catholic radio networks to unite under the patronage of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to bring more hearts home to the merciful embrace of the Father.
9. What are the benefits anticipated from this merger?
The most significant benefits of merging are network growth and financial stability. Following the merger, our Catholic radio network will reach 133 million souls in 39 states, coast-to-coast and globally via the internet. Gains are expected in revenue, effectiveness, and efficiency by combining the best practices of both organizations; however, operating cost savings are not a driving force of the merger.
10. When will this merger be finalized?
The FCC has approved the transfer of the station licenses with a closing date of June 30, 2017. We anticipate complete integration of both organizations within a few months and look forward to celebrating our unification on October 13, 2017.
11. Why was October 13, 2017, chosen for the completion of the merger?
October 13, 2017, is the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s sixth and final apparition in Fatima – the Miracle of the Sun. This date was chosen for the completion of the merger during this Jubilee Year of Fatima in gratitude to Our Blessed Mother for Her patronage of both Relevant Radio and Immaculate Heart Radio throughout the years, and Her intercession throughout the entire merger process. During Her apparitions in Fatima, Our Lady also revealed the devotion to Her Immaculate Heart, and we thought it an appropriate date for the completion of the merger to form Immaculate Heart Media. We give thanks to Our Lady and Her Immaculate Heart for bringing us to this point.
12. What will be the name of the new corporation?
The new corporation’s legal name will be Immaculate Heart Media, Inc. operating as Relevant Radio®.
13. Why the name “Relevant” Radio?
“Radio offers perhaps the closest equivalent today to what Jesus was able to do with large groups through his preaching. Radio is an intimate medium…[and] may well be the most effective means of reaching large numbers of people.” ~ Saint John Paul II
Our apostolate’s content must be relevant to God, His Church, and to all those listening. The name Relevant Radio reflects, most importantly, the fact that everything is relevant to Jesus, and Jesus is relevant to everyone and that our commitment to quality programming is relevant to the many facets of Catholic life.
14. What is the new corporation’s mission statement?
Immaculate Heart Media branded as Relevant Radio® assists the Church in the New Evangelization by providing relevant programming through media platforms to help people bridge the gap between faith and everyday life.
We believe that Jesus Christ can transform people’s lives, and that media has the power to deliver this message of hope in powerful and transformative ways.
We exist to bring the beauty, goodness and truth of the Catholic Faith into the everyday lives of people who seek it, whenever and wherever they are.
15. What are the Guiding Principles of the corporation?
The Guiding Principles of the corporation are:
• Faithful to the Magisterium and the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church
• United to the Bishops
• Under the protective intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary
16. Who will lead the new corporation?
Rev. Francis J. Hoffman will be the Executive Director and Doug Sherman will be President. The current Board of Directors will merge and be expanded. Tom Vorpahl will be the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
17. Where will the headquarters be located?
The plan is for Green Bay, Wisconsin and Loomis, California to continue to be corporate and regional headquarters, respectively.
The Relevant Radio corporate office is intentionally located in Green Bay, WI – not far from Champion, WI, where the Blessed Mother appeared in 1859, the only approved apparition site in the United States. The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help is designated a National Shrine. Is there a connection? Our Lady’s message was simple and straightforward: “teach the children what they need to know for their salvation.” Relevant Radio exists to help souls get to heaven.
18. What are the plans for future growth?
We currently have 59 affiliates and always welcome additional affiliate patrnerships.
In order to expand to other areas or purchase a station, a license has to become available. We have numerous communities where there are large Catholic populations, currently without Catholic Radio, that we would like to serve. When a station comes on the market at a reasonable price in one of these communities, we will evaluate the purchase possibility and pursue the opportunity quickly if we have funds available. Ready access to funds is key to securing quality signals at reasonable prices.
