Sure Fire Ways to Ruin A Marriage --Dr. Bill Bellet
Friday, July 23, 2010

Dr. Bill Bellet's website:

http://www.workpsyte.com/

“Sure fire ways to ruin a marriage”
Believe that things should stay the same as when marriage took place
Believe that spouse should make you happy
Try to change your spouse
Don’t become knowledgeable about relationships
Believe that partners should change at the same time
Spend all of your free time together
Believe that you can have affairs (or even non-physical relationships w/opposite gender person) without affecting marriage
Think that love is an emotion
Think that time cures all; if you don’t deal with issues, they will go away
Specific ways to ruin marriage during children’s adolescence:
Dedicate entire life to your children
One parent must always be the “good” guy, other the “heavy”
If child gets in trouble, one must rescue while the other punishes
“Good” parent must give permission before “heavy” knows there is a request
When things go foul, always have someone to blame, preferably spouse
Realize the most effective weapon in a fight is to clam up
Ignore how much grief work there is to do when your kids leave

This is the website Peter referenced during today's program.

http://www.flrl.org/

http://maritalhealing.com/

Peter's 6 Point Pornography Addiction Recovery Plan:

1. Purify the home - remove any pornography and anything that might remind one of pornography from the home.  Place the computer in a public area.

2. 12-step recovery group - to provide support and accountability to help the addict achieve sobriety

3. Therapy - Individual therapy to identify and resolve the root causes of pornography use.  This makes maintaining sobriety easier.  Marital and family therapy might also be needed to heal the relationship wounds caused by porn use.

4. God - In order for recovery to be successful, the addict needs a strong relationship with God,  The sacraments, spiritual reading, scripture study, and working on growing in virtue are all needed for recovery.

5. Healthy Friendships - these can be an additional source of support and accountability.  They also prevent a man from isolating himself with pornography and help in avoiding selfishness.

6. Education - One must be aware of he effects of pornography on individuals, marriages, families and society.  One also needs to be aware of the resources available to combat porn.  Sharing this with others is another way to avoid porn use.

A Call for Character Education & Prayer in the Schools

Published by Praeger Publishers and available nationwide

In this book, "A Call for Character Education and Prayer in the Schools" (Praeger), Jeynes, an educational historian and researcher, asserts that the United States has paid a major moral price for U.S. Supreme Court decisions in 1962 and 1963 that removed prayer and Bible reading from the public schools. In this book, Dr. Jeynes  also explains  that in the aftermath of these court rulings, the nation endured one of the worst and longest sustained increases in juvenile crime in history.

Christmas Oppotunities and Pit-falls
Friday, December 11, 2009

Deacon Phil Hengen of the Archdiocese of St. Louis joined us today to discuss how to seize this special opportunities and avoid some of the pit-falls which keep our focus off of the Birth of Jesus.  Among those:

 Common Pit-falls to be avoided:

                a.  Overspending, Overspending, Overspending

                b. Overextending yourself to the point of fatigue (Exhausted people are generally not much fun to be with)

                c.  Overeating and feeling bad about yourself for doing this

                d.  Overdrinking (especially if you then get behind the wheel of a car)

                e.  Spending time with people who seem to  bring out the worst in you (unless you think you can control it)

                f.  Letting the secular aspects of Christmas over-shadow the spirituality of Christmas
